As author Jean Hersey once said, “June is the gateway to summer.” And the great outdoor events and a Pride festivities here in the Bayview certainly back that up! Our neighbors curated events this month that celebrate and strengthen our community even more through culture, food and entertainment.

Bayview 2018 Summer Music Series

June 1-28, 2018
Held at various locations in the Bayview-Hunters Point Neighborhood

The Summer Music Series is back, and it’s time to enjoy music and food, Bayview style. This month-long series offers you the chance to support Bayview restaurants while enjoying sounds by local artists. Each week, you can take your pick from Auntie April’s, Sam Jordan’s Bar and Grill, All Good Pizza, Gratta Wines, Radio Africa & Kitchen and Old School Café.  The music lineup includes performances by Dwayne Charles, Noah and the Arkiteks, Sam People’s, Boom Baptist, Youth Trio, Shelley Doty and Jane Pettingil, One Time More, Jason Wright, Calvin Keys and SF Jazz Youth Trio.

Mark your calendars for a fundraiser to help build the D10 PRIDE float! They will be raffling off some great items and have Slow & Oak grilling up Texas style BBQ to devour along with some craft wines to smooth out the finish. This is your chance to support the community’s parade float and enjoy the savory taste of BBQ and loclly-sourced glass of wine.

 

3rd on Third Juneteenth + Soul Food Cook Off

Celebrate the official Bayview ‘Juneteenth Emancipation Freedom’ celebration at Bayview Opera House. To commemorate Juneteenth Bayview-style, there is a ‘Soul Food Cook Off’ featuring you! Yes, this is your chance to bring your best home-prepared soul food dishes to compete in ‘BBQ’, ‘Greens’ or ‘Desserts’ category to win $250 cash prize. Do you think you have a shot? Moonlight: A Free Movie Screening

The District 10 Pride Committee and Bayview Opera House present: Moonlight: A Free Movie Screening. The coming-of-age drama Moonlight was nominated for eight Academy Awards. It tells the story of a gay African-American boy growing up in the impoverished Liberty City neighborhood of Miami. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

 

March With Bayview | District 10 Pride Parade Float

Saturday, June 23 | 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

All are welcome to join in the Pride Parade 2018. This is your chance to march alongside the official District 10 float representing Bayview, Dogpatch, Potrero, and Visitacion Valley.
