The holidays are just around the corner, and with it comes tree (and menorah!) lighting ceremonies all around the Bay Area. So bundle up and welcome the season at one of these celebrations!
Bayview Opera House, 4705 Third St.
Friday, Nov. 16: 5-8 p.m.
This event will feature everything from a s’mores roasting to live music. Get an early start on your holiday shopping at the Bayview Underground Pop Up Market before the ceremonial lighting of the Bayview community tree at 6 p.m. at 3rd Street and Newcomb Avenue. The evening will also offer crafts activities and food and drink.
Friday, Nov. 16, 4-7 p.m.
Don’t miss this magical evening highlighted by 17,000 holiday lights, a Disney on Ice show and fireworks. The family fun begins at 4 p.m. with a carnival, and the building lighting will follow at 6 p.m. Can you say best Friday ever?
Tuesday, Nov. 20, 5-7 p.m.
For the season kickoff, revelers need to be on the pier at 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 21 when Phoenix (San Francisco Fire Department’s new fireboat) will sail by followed by the pier’s opening tree lighting show at 6 p.m. And get this – every night thereafter through Jan. 1, the 60-foot holiday tree will be lit on the hour from 5-10 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 23, 5:30 p.m.
On Black Friday, Macy’s will illuminate its tree in Union Square with 43,000 lights and lots of “oohs” and “ahhhs.” This event will include live music from the San Francisco Boys Chorus and music legend Darlene Love, among others, before Santa arrives for the countdown to the official tree lighting around 6:50 p.m.

Monday, Dec. 3: 6:30 p.m.
Join the Rainbow World Fund to celebrate hopes for our global future with an international program. The pre-lighting party includes musical performances from the Lesbian Gay Chorus of San Francisco and Lauren Mayer as well as an exchange of origami peace cranes and a blessing of the tree by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. After the 7:45 p.m. tree lighting, festival goers are invited to continue enjoying the party until 8:30 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 7, 6-9 p.m.

People of all ages are invited to the lighting of the 50-foot inverted Crystal Tree under San Francisco’s Emporium Dome, an evening complete with visits with Santa, hot cocoa and dancing to the music of The Jeanette’s.
The Billy Graham Menorah Project will kick off eight days of candle lighting ceremonies at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2 with special guests David and Alex Graham, local dignitaries and long-time colleagues of Billy Graham. Parents can bring their kids at 2 p.m. for craft activities before the menorah lighting. Ceremonies and music will begin at 5 p.m. with candle lightings at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 3-6, with the lighting at 3 p.m. on Dec. 7, 8 p.m. on Dec. 8 and 5 p.m. on Dec. 9.
