Fall Open Studios is upon us! It’s a time when local artists open their studios to the public – where you can see their creative processes, and behold the beauty that comes from their hands! Fall Open Studios provides an opportunity to buy local art, along with the opportunity to enjoy free foods and beverages with fellow community members.
The Hunters Point Shipyard Artists Open Studio will feature works by more than 170 artists. This artist community is known as the largest of its kind in the United States, with nearly 300 artists working in studios at The San Francisco Shipyard. They open to the public three times a year, inviting visitors to come by their work spaces and buy their art. Art includes: paintings, sketches, sculpture, jewelry, photography, metal work, ceramics, textiles and more.
This year’s Artists Open Studios will be October 20 and 21 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and will include the annual STAR silent auction, which raises money to support the Hunters Point Shipyard artist’s community, and allows you also to submit bids on your favorite artworks featured in the auditorium. The highest bid at the auction’s closing at 6 p.m. on Sunday wins.
And if you just can’t take the risk that someone will outbid you on your favorite artwork, you can buy any piece instantly at retail price. You can preview some of the available art here.
The Hunters Point Shipyard artists community is on Horn Street, and directions by car and by foot are available here.
