Bayview will serve up an abundant menu of food and music with the month-long Summer Music Series, providing something for a wide range of cultures and tastes.
Here’s how it works: Between June 3 and July 1, various Bayview restaurants will be the backdrop for musical performers. Those two Saturday afternoons will bracket Thursday evening and afternoon performances, with a different restaurant for each act. Creative, fun and fascinating – Bayview Style!
Here’s the lineup:
Saturday, June 3, Noon-3 p.m.
Venue: All Good Pizza, 1605 Jerrold Ave.
All Good Pizza specializes in Neapolitan-style brick oven pizza, organic salads, paninis grilled on fresh baked bread, and beer and wine. The setting is an exciting, inviting 7,000-square-foot beer garden. Everything is created from scratch using local vendors.
Performers: La Clandestina, San Francisco-based six-piece Latin-Fusion band offering everything from Salsa to Reggae to South American Folk.
Thursday, June 8, 6-9 p.m.
Venue: Gratta Wines, 5273 3rd Street
Gratta Wines is a small-production winery, set up in a garage in a residential neighborhood overlooking the Bay. The wine is produced meticulously by Barbara Gratta through the crushing, fermentation, pressing, barreling and bottling processes.
Performers: Kings Five Jazz Quintet, a hip instrumental sound enjoyable by folks of all ages and musical interests.
Thursday, June 15, 6-9 p.m.
Venue: Auntie April’s, 4618 3rd Street
April Spears, proprietor and executive chef, is a San Francisco native and resident. But her love affair with food started in her grandmother’s kitchen, where she learned to cook Texas- and Louisiana-style. April’s recipes are a unique blend of Southern flavors, including her award-winning Shrimp ‘n’ Grits.
Performers: Garrett Kobsef Trio, Jazz-fueled eclectic mix by the innovative sax player.
Thursday, June 22, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Venue: La Laguna, 3906 3rd Street
La Laguna is known for its modern interpretation of classic Mexican dishes and its insistence on top-quality fresh ingredients. The menu is wide-ranging, the service is excellent, and the staff is friendly. The dining room is no-frills but homey and welcoming.
Performers: Trio De Oro, classic entertainment for the whole family.
Thursday, June 29, 5-8 p.m.
Venue: Sam Jordan’s Bar & Grill, 4004 3rd St.
Famed Sam Jordan’s, a designated historical landmark, is the oldest African-American bar in the city. The menu is Southern-style home cooking, and the bar offers custom drinks that can be found nowhere else. Founder Sam Jordan played a role in San Francisco history as a crowd-pleasing Golden Gloves champion, bar owner, and political figure.
Performers: Calvin Keys Trio – Distinguished jazz musicians led by legendary guitarist Calvin Keys.
Saturday, July 1, Noon-3 p.m.
Venue: Duc Loi Pantry, 5900 3rd St.
Duc Loi, a family-run independent grocer, expanded its popular Mission District location to become Bayview’s only full service grocery store. Besides day-to-day groceries, Duc Loi offers prepared foods including Banh Mi sandwiches among the best in the city, spring rolls, homemade kimchi and fish sauce, and Vietnamese coffee.
Performers: Dwayne Charles Project, New Orleans-born Dwayne Charles’s blend of jazz, gospel and multiple genres.
