On October 18 and 19, more than 180 artists welcomed close to 10,000 attendees into their working studios to explore, experience and collect local art as part of the 2014 Fall Open Studios, America’s oldest and largest open studios event. The event was hosted by Hunters Point Shipyard Artists and ArtSpan at The San Francisco Shipyard.
The weekend art fest included art exhibits, live music, a food truck court, a beer garden, art activities for kids and live and silent auctions sponsored by STAR (Shipyard Trust for the Arts), the non-profit that has represented the interests of the artists at the Shipyard since 1995.
This also marked the kick-off of ArtSpan’s Youth Open Studios, an exciting new pilot program that offers exhibition opportunities for youth artists K-12, providing a platform for young artists to thrive under the guidance of working artists.
Lennar Urban provided a free shuttle along with complimentary refreshments at The San Francisco Shipyard Welcome Center (11 Innes Court) across from the event. The Welcome Center provides an overview of the transformative new community and the Hunters Point Shipyard Artists.
For the second year in a row, we here at The San Francisco Shipyard hosted a photo contest to win a PUBLIC Bike. We received dozens of submissions from attendees who tagged their photos from the event with #TheSFShipyard. The winner was Knyko Norris – congrats! Check out the winning photo here!
